Non-DKP Items
The biggest rule of running any instance is communication. Discuss loot rules before going in. Find out if anyone is
looking for a particular item and then make a group decision as to whether or not to allow that person to roll "need". If
everyone does not agree or there is a question of doubt, please utilize the standards set forth below. There is NO
item in the game worth getting angry or disrespectful over. We run instances all the time and it is only a matter of time
before everyone gets what they want.
1) Roll greed on Bind on Equip (BoE) items
Generally this applies to all essences, books, and other materials that drop with a roll as well, unless priorities
have been established at the beginning of the run. If a BoE item is a significant upgrade for you, please
communicate that to the party. In most cases if you are not the winner of the item, the winner is happy to give
over equipment that will help another member.
2) Pass on all Bind on Pick-up (BoP) items
Pass first then discuss if the BoP item is an upgrade for anyone. Generally, if an item is not an upgrade for
anyone, the item is sent to the nearest enchanter to be disenchanted. Disenchanted mats can either be sent to
the guild bank or given to the party on a need or roll basis, whichever is determined by the party. We trust that
our players are mature enough to discuss and decide what is in the best interest of our players and guild on all
BoP items.
Ascent members are mature enough to solve most loot issues on their own, however the group or raid leader may
remove a member for violation of the loot rules. We understand that on rare occasions a member will roll on a BoP.
This is usually an honest mistake. For a first offense, the member will be warned. On a second offense, the member
will be removed from the party or raid. On a third offense the member may be kicked from the guild or if the member is
a guest they will not be allowed on further runs. Ascent will not tolerate "ninja-looting" from members or their guests.
If a loot issue arises that cannot be resolved, please contact an officer for assistance.
Zero-Sum DKP
Zero-sum DKP is used for distributing epic items in 25-person Ascent guild raids. Zero-sum DKP was chosen because
it is a system that evenly distributes items among those who consistently support the guild raids, while also being
welcoming to newcomers.
Spending DKP
Each epic item that can drop in a 25-person raid has an assigned DKP value. These assigned values are published
on the Ascent website and are based on the item’s quality. When an epic item drops, the loot master will ask raiders to
whisper him links to the items that they want. After giving a reasonable time for everyone to indicate their interest, the
loot master will award the item to the raider with the highest current DKP. The DKP value for the item is immediately
subtracted from the recipient's DKP.
For example, say that a Wand of Super-Smiting drops, which might have a value of, say, 100 DKP. Two raiders, Uno
and Dos, bid on the wand by linking the wand to the loot master. Uno has 50 DKP and Dos has -10 DKP. Since Uno
has the highest DKP, he is awarded the wand, and his new DKP total is immediately modified to 50 - 100 = -50 DKP.
Earning DKP
At the end of each raiding week, which is Tuesday through Monday, DKP spent during that week is given to the
people who raided that week and added to their DKP totals. Every raider receives one share in the DKP award for
each raid that they fully attended during the week. The DKP spent is then awarded to each raider proportional to their
fraction of the total number of shares. Fully attending a raid means being present at the dungeon from the time that
the initial raiders have been selected until the raid ends. For us, this is usually 7 PM to 11 PM.
For example, say that 1000 DKP was spent during the week. There were 4 raiders who fully attended this week's
raids: Uno, Dos, Tres, and Quatro. Uno fully attended one raid, Dos fully attended two raids, Tres fully attended three
raids, and Quatro fully attended four raids. The total number of shares would be 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10. Here are the DKP
amounts that would be awarded to each person:
Uno: 1000 * 1 / 10 = 100 DKP
Dos: 1000 * 2 / 10 = 200 DKP
Tres: 1000 * 3 / 10 = 300 DKP
Quatro: 1000 * 4 / 10 = 400 DKP
Standby
People on standby receive full DKP for the raid, just as people who are actually in the raid do. As such, they need to
maintain the same level of readiness as people in the raid. In order to be considered to be on standby, a person must
meet these conditions:
· Have your raiding character ready to zone in and get started within two minutes of being asked to join the raid.
Requiring a warlock's summons or being PvP flagged is not considered being ready to zone in. Hearthstones, portals,
and item transporters are fine methods of getting to the instance as long as you're with the raid in 2 min.
· Be available by either Ventrilo or by whisper at all times. You may play any alt provided that we can reach you by
Ventrilo. If your alt is in the guild, the minimum requirement is that we can reach you by whisper.
· If you have to go AFK, let an officer know when you step away, how long you'll be, and when you're back. Any AFK's
should be less than 10 min. If you are called to join the raid and you're on an unannounced AFK, you will not receive
DKP for the evening.
· Be ready to raid. This includes being repaired, having full consumables, and the right spec for raiding. You should
also be alert and in good health.
· Make sure that your character's name is on the waitlist for the entire time you are on standby. You are automatically
removed from the standby list each time that you join the raid, so make sure that you add yourself back to the standby
list every time that you leave the raid. If you're not on the waitlist while on standby you won't get DKP for the evening.
DKP Decay
In our system, both DKP earnings and expenditures decay over time. This means that more recent earnings and
expenditures are weighted more heavily than older ones. There are several reasons for this.
- Recent raids are of greater importance to the guild than older ones, so weighting more recent activity higher makes
sense.
- DKP decay encourages spending on useful upgrades. Anyone who attempted to skip current-generation upgrades
and horde DKP for the next generation of upgrades would see their DKP decay, and they would get less gear over
time than someone who spent their DKP on upgrades all along. Spending DKP on useful upgrades helps the guild
progress, so DKP hording is discouraged.
- New raiders can get up to speed quickly without being penalized in the long term. New raiders can generally get a lot
of upgrades and go very negative on DKP. With DKP decay, their expenditures will be forgiven over time, and they will
not suffer any lasting disadvantage to raiders who have been in the guild longer than they have.
- Decay helps limit the number of people that have to be tracked in a zero-sum system. In a pure zero-sum system
with no decay, any raider who has ever earned DKP must have their DKP total tracked and maintained forever. With
DKP decay, the raider can be dropped from the books when all their earnings and expenditures have decayed to zero.
The weighting of earnings and expenditures is as follows, with week 0 being the current week, week -1 being last
week, and so forth.
Weight : Week
1.00 : 0
1.00 : -1
1.00 : -2
0.98 : -3
0.96 : -4
0.94 : -5
0.90 : -6
0.86 : -7
0.81 : -8
0.75 : -9
0.68 : -10
0.61 : -11
0.53 : -12
0.44 : -13
0.34 : -14
0.23 : -15
0.12 : -16
0.00 : -17 and earlier
This means that DKP earnings and expenditures for the current week in progress, as well as the preceding two weeks,
are counted normally (weight of 1.00). Earlier weeks' earnings and expenditures are weighted more and more lightly
until at week -17, all earnings and expenditures are wiped out completely.
A Few Details...
· DKP is only awarded or spent for epic item drops. No bonus points will ever be awarded. Therefore, DKP in = DKP
out, and the sum of all DKP in the system is always zero. This prevents point total inflation, making the system fair to
newcomers.
· DKP scores can go negative. You can still purchase items when you have a negative DKP score.
· Anyone attending an Ascent raid is automatically a part of our zero-sum DKP system regardless of guild affiliation,
and can earn and spend DKP. Any newcomer starts at 0 points, which is neither the lowest nor the highest score
possible.
· Any new recruit (or guest) brought into Ascent raids will not be eligible to bid on any epic items during a raid until
they have been made a full member. The only exception to this will be that they may use their DKP earned on an item
only if every other member of the raid passes on it. Recruits (and guests) will still earn DKP on every raid they
participate in.
· Current DKP totals for everyone who has participated in Ascent raids will be published on our website. These totals
will be updated after each raid.
· Spent DKP will never be refunded. Once you agree to purchase an item and receive it, the DKP will not be refunded
if you change your mind later.
· In the event of a tie in DKP between multiple eligible players, a random 100 roll will be used to determine who has
the first option to purchase the item.
· If all raid participants pass on a BoE item, then the item shall be sent to the guild bank where any other guild
member can purchase the item for its standard DKP value. Once the item is purchased, all of the raid attendees will
be credited with their share of the item’s DKP value.
· If all raid participants pass on a BoP item, then that item will be disenchanted. The resulting Nexus shard will be sent
to the guild bank. No DKP is awarded for disenchanted items.
· Blue and green item that drop during Ascent raids are not covered by DKP. These will be distributed by either
random roll or officer assignment to the person who can best use the item.
· Items purchased must be used / equipped by the character purchasing the item. Purchasing items for sale at the
Auction House or for an alt is not allowed.
· If a player has multiple max-level characters, that player needs to designate one character his main. Mains will have
priority over alts for epic item distribution, and alts will only be eligible if all mains pass.
· All reagent drops will be collected by the raid leader and used to craft resistance and other gear to allow Ascent to
progress.
· Rare recipe drops will be distributed at no DKP cost by officer assignment. The recipient of the recipe must agree to
craft the item at materials cost to all raid members who need it.
· Epic quest items will have an assigned DKP value and will be distributed using our normal DKP rules.
